ROOTS & BEGINNINGS
Kyle Bevan, 25, is a mixed media artist based in North Shields, UK. They are known for their abstract & textural interpretations of Nature. Kyle has been self taught in resin for over 7 years.
The act of creating art has always been an integral part of their life. From a young age, Kyle found refuge in the creative process, where they were able to navigate their thoughts, emotions, and sensory experiences. Through art, Kyle discovered a means of communication that transcended the limitations of conventional language.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
Kyle has always felt deeply connected and inspired by the beauty & complexity of nature. The ocean, with its vastness and enigmatic allure, has made a particularly profound impact on their creative process. Its rhythmic tides and crashing waves serve as a metaphor for the ebb and flow of life. Through art, Kyle seeks to convey the emotional depths and tranquility that the ocean embodies.
"I find inspiration in the changing forms, colours, and patterns of nature. My artistic journey is a continuous exploration to translate the emotions and ephemeral moments I experience when immersed in these natural spaces."
The artistic process is an exploration of spontaneity and intuition. Kyle begins each piece with a loose concept, but allows the materials and their subconscious to guide them. Layers upon layers of paint, ink, resin and various mixed media elements gradually build up, creating depth and complexity within the artwork. Each piece is entirely unique and unrepeatable with most paintings taking over two weeks to complete.
Through a combination of brushwork, pouring, layering and torching techniques, they aim to translate the oceans captivating essence, imbuing the artwork with a sense of energy, movement and harmony inherent in nature.
ARTIST JOURNEY
Born in Berkshire, Kyle's artist journey began during their early years, where pencil drawings and watercolour painting served as their primary mode of artistic expression.
Through studying Art & Design at college, Kyle was able to explore different art mediums. Here, Kyle mainly worked in watercolor portraiture, abstract acrylic paintings and photography. Outside of college, they discovered the transformative potential of resin, utilising it as a finishing gloss to add a unique shine to their paintings. Soon, Kyle began playing with resin as a painting medium itself creating their first resin seascape in 2017.
Whilst studying Fine Art at Hertfordshire University, Kyle's artistic focus shifted, delving into abstract photography and Avant-Garde film. Although resin remained a constant presence in their artistic practice, Kyle chose to focus on digital mediums in their studies which was partly due to the pandemic shutting down the artist studios.
After graduating in 2021 with First Class Honours, Kyle moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne after craving a significant change of scene, and being drawn to the natural beauties and coasts of the North East. Here Kyle has continued their artistic exploration, delving further with resin and other textural mediums. They have embraced the tactile and sensory elements of the craft creating dynamic and multidimensional pieces.
Throughout their artist journey, Kyle has constantly pushed the boundaries of their creativity. with every stage offering new insights, techniques, mediums and perspectives, allowing them to evolve as an artist.
